A Greyhound crashed into a disabled SUV early Sunday on Interstate 30 in Arlington, killing a woman and critically injuring a man, police say.

Sixteen passengers on the bus were taken to hospitals, but they were not seriously hurt, according to a Greyhound spokeswoman. All but one was expected to be released Sunday.

Witnesses had reported that the SUV was “driving erratically and swerving” about 5:30 a.m. on westbound I-30 before it crashed into an HOV lane divider near Center Street, police Lt. Christopher Cooper said.

It was unclear whether the man or woman was driving. The woman was identified Monday as 28-year-old Torie Davis, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Several minutes after the initial crash, while authorities were on their way to investigate, police received calls saying a bus had struck the SUV.

“It’s a very dangerous situation to become disabled on the main lanes of the freeway,” Cook said.

Davis died at the scene, while the man was airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Greyhound spokeswoman Lanesha Gipson said 40 passengers were on the Amarillo-bound bus when it crashed. A second bus was dispatched to transport the other passengers to their destination.

The westbound highway remained shut down for hours while police investigated the crash Sunday.

Authorities were interviewing the Greyhound driver about what happened, and police said the bus was equipped with a camera that should help in the investigation.
